Do not hurt your resume

Recruiter’s receive many resumes due to the large number of people looking for jobs. It is for this reason that recruiters will be more interested in those candidates who submit detailed information that they are looking for. Each recruiter can tell you something different, but this recruiter is giving you her opinion that will favor you. If the person who evaluates your resume does not find relevant information, he or she will not take your resume into consideration and will not affect you but, if she or he does not find the information required for the vacancy, they may place you at end of all the candidates when placing a call or you are discarded.

I share several suggestions to prepare a good resume:

  • Be specific about the nature and distinctive aspects of the job. Break down the functions and tasks of the position, do not presume that they will call you to ask for more details that you did not include, remember not all Recruiters or Hiring Managers have the time to clarify and give priority to those who did include the details of their functions.

  • Includes month and year of each work experience. This detail is important to highlight the time of experience. In my experience, recruiting for several industries, it is frequent that companies require that this information be included in the resume.

  • No photos. In Puerto Rico it is not necessary to include photos in the resumes, only a modeling post, promotions or performance, it may be necessary to include a photo.

  • Spell check. It is common to find spelling errors or typo’s, this situation leaves a lot to think about the quality of your work.

  • Include programs and computer languages that you are familiar with. This is important when the position you request is common in using a program or platform to carry out the work, for example, payroll employees, programmers and buyers among many other professions, it is usual to manage some platform or program.

  • Do not forget the machines and equipment. Those who work in industries where they need to manage or know the operation of equipment or machinery, should mention the equipment they are familiar with. It is very rare that they include it and will help in highlighting your resume among other candidates, for example: forklifts, manufacturing equipment or air conditioning systems among others.

  • Look for a reader. In case you're tired of editing, ask a friend to review your resume, this way you can confirm if they understand the contents of the resume and detect spelling errors.

These tips can help you get an interview appointment you are waiting for.
